NYHS is expanding our science program to include a STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) track. Students who are selected to participate in STEM will take specific courses in scientific engineering, biomedical engineering, and senior thesis. They will have a dedicated advisor to work with and mentor them throughout the process.

Ms. Ariela De Funis

STEM/Mathematics/Educational Technology Coordinator

Ms. Ariela De Funis is an alumna of NYHS. She attended the University of Washington where she graduated with honors, receiving a double degree in Economics and Philosophy. She was a New York City Teaching Fellow and spent five years teaching math at the Central Park East School in East Harlem. For the past five years, Ms. De Funis has been a math instructor at Yellow Wood Academy on Mercer Island, where she taught all levels of Algebra, Pre-Calculus and AP Economics to students with a range of learning needs. Currently, Ms. De Funis is in the Master in Teaching Math and Science (MTMS) program at Seattle Pacific University, where she is studying how to incorporate literacy and technology into the STEM classroom. Ms. De Funis is extremely excited about returning to NYHS and looks forward to sharing her love and enthusiasm of mathematics with her students!
