FRESHMAN CHECKLIST

You are embarking on the final leg of your K-12 educational journey, and preparing for life after high school. Graduation may still be four years away, but your freshman year is a crucial and exciting time to begin exploring post-secondary options and making choices that will serve you well down the road.

✔ PUT YOUR BEST SELF FORWARD
Get to know your teachers! Volunteer when asked! Get involved in school programs like student council and clubs.  The version of yourself you show others is how they will characterize you when asked.

✔ GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

Stretch yourself this year and try something new. Whether a new sport or jumping into a club like journalism or mycology, now is the time to explore interests.

✔ THINK ABOUT ACTIVITIES

Activities, whether inside or outside of school, are an important part of your college application. Sports, clubs, and volunteerism are all valuable components of personal development and the college application. Choose a few that you can dedicate time to and really get involved in. When applying for college, the depth at which you are involved and the growth you can showcase will be more critical than a laundry list of activities.

✔ MEET WITH YOUR COUNSELOR

Ms. Frankwick is here to help you discover potential career paths and to assist you and your parents in navigating the college application process.  Stop by her office with questions or make an appointment to discuss your college and career goals.

✔ USE YOUR SUMMER

Use your time off over the summer break to explore careers, volunteer, participate in summer programs, and build your credentials. Check with Ms. Frankwick for help finding a wealth of opportunities to fit any interest, any budget, and any period of time.
